Jean Stokes Opening Celebrations and Guardian Volunteer Day.

This years Guardian volunteer day centred around the opening celebrations for the newly refurbished Jean Stokes Community Centre. 60 volunteers joined us on Bemerton to help us do heavy gardening, fill sandbags for the Cally Festival, paint and fix benches and transform the plant bed at the front of Coatbridge House.

After some volunteers went door knocking on the estate earlier in the morning, they then put on a BBQ in the afternoon. We closed Freeling street, set up a mini market and had a street party to celebrate the opening of the Jean Stokes Community Centre.

Residents we invited to take part in many activities including some planting, decorating cotton bags and sampling local produce all for free! Some of our community groups also setup in the hall to tell people all about the activities they run in the community centre.

Cllr Convery thanked all that made  the refurbishment possible, including our funders, partners and fantastic team here at the TMO. Jean Stokes’s sister (who also opened the hall when it was originally named after her over 20 years ago) then cut the ribbon and everyone as invited to take a look around the community centre.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful Guardian volunteers for yet another spectacular day!
